State of Origin 1 2016 sets new TV ratings mark

The Nine Network’s broadcast of the first game in the NRL’s State Of Origin series  for 2016 has set new ratings records, with the largest ever metropolitan audience of 2.696 million capital city viewers (including 98,000 who watched on 9Gem in Perth) tuning in to watch the Queensland Maroons defeat the NSW Blues 6-4 in what many have described as a dour match.

Bringing in regional viewers of 1.167million, an average national audience of 3.863 million watched the game.
